I play with my food. Like I played with my stuffed animals. The Raggedy Anne and Andy kind of playing, when you leave the room they come to life. Then they make a life-or-death-dash to their original places when you open the door. I imagine the same waiting-to-stretch-and-come-to-life happens in the cupboards and refrigerators. Although caned foods don’t inspire great visual stimulation. The thought of beans huddled-hiding in the shadows, while their families and loved ones are boiled, gives me the feeling of a barbaric hungry giant.

Hide and seek wraps-up the first week of 2007.

This week was a little bumpy connecting the images to one another. As the project continues I know I will get better at this part of the process.

The first day-- Will it be luck or effort that will make this year all I want it to be?

Have you ever seen a man so happy about asparagus?-- It is both luck and effort. It is effort to fill the refrigerator with food you will enjoy. We choose how and what we want to cook. It is effort to enjoy the process. However, the depth of our individual enjoyment, I believe is luck.

lonely--this photo was taken in Salamanca about two hours outside of Madrid. It was one of those days that you want to wrap leafless trees in warm soft blankets. I don’t see the connection between this photo and the asparagus photo. However, it does connect to the picture I took the next day.

lichee mulled wine- One open lichee, beautiful in it’s uniqueness, like the tree.

Sid Salmon-I wanted to continue with food, I went to the fish monger and there was this one salmon with a mohawk and a little foot. He had so much personality that I had to take him home.

old friends- I think about “fine art”. The best definition I have heard is thanks to my Aunt Sheila, she says “I could do pastel cat portraits... it is not about the drawing. It is about conquering my own self-doubt to continue drawing”.
