1/2 a year finished of the photo a day project, 151 days to date. BAM!

The goal for the first 1/2 of the project was to push myself. Yup. To accomplish the challenge of facing if I possessed quality artistic individuality. And as our Doc Rahman says, “It is hard to be original, but even harder to be original and interesting.” I went through the archive answering these very questions:

Am I creating original interesting work?

Originality, now there’s a word. Most “original artwork” is a response to something that unconsciously moved the artist that claims they’re the originator.  As Mr. Sir Newton said  "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." With that said,  I believe I have a worthwhile perspective to contribute and much left to learn.

What is my interest?

Modern sexuality, fertility, and questioning gender roles with a dose of play and humor. I enjoy using food and random objects to symbolize something deeper beyond their obvious association. Women’s issues and sex roles are my current motivation.

What topic do I want to focus on this month?

Speaking of standing on the shoulders of giants, a year ago for my birthday David gave me “Marriage and Morals” by Bertrand Russell. It couldn't be a better fit with my current interests. Russell asks the question “By what code do we live our sexual lives?” Written in the 1930’s, He is as provocative and on the vanguard as any modern thinkers on this subject. For the next month, I will use the issues discussed in the book that inspire a photo response. I will cite the sentences that sparked the shots.
